I'm not sure if Devin and Nova SHOULD have sex, but I was this entire time just assuming that they did anyway. Because since when are these people doing what they should
Real As Hell .
#replies#devin and nova#original fiction#it's sort of the same principle as giving devin ten million fantasy opioids.#do these solve the problem?? no. do they create bigger problems?? probably#is it fine and understandable?? yeah....

a bunch of people have already registered for my mentoring workshop! unfortunately this means i have to plan and host a workshop aaaaaa
#i want to think aloud through it on here at some point#but i think i am going to structure it around the theme of cultivating student autonomy#because i think one of the primary goals of mentorship is to prepare students to be self-directed learners who can set realistic goals +#evaluate their own progress + reflect on what they've learned and what they still don't know#+ take initiative without sitting around waiting for someone to tell them what to do next#so i think we will do some thinking around like#when we have a student we think of as really capable or driven what qualities and behaviors do we observe in that student#and maybe ill also share some of the research on intrinsic motivation + self-direction + locus of control#which i think is all really interesting esp in light of the contemporary College Mental Health Crisis concerns#and then we will look at a range of tools + structures + strategies that i think are useful for fostering student autonomy over time#and maybe leave them with some core principles/guiding values that i think are useful when you are trying to like#avoid jumping in and doing stuff for kids#or solving their problems for them#idk i need to think through specifics a bit more#but i feel like on this campus#people do a lot of 'workshops' that are really not interactive at all#it's just someone talking from slides#and i kind of want to show off my ability to structure more engaging workshops#but idk. gotta think about how to do it well#and how to build in lots of opportunities for like crowdsourcing strategies too

Yeah. A curious cognitive dissonance stretching back thousands of years...
I have been a sheep caretaker for like two days and already I'm like. Wow. I get it.
I get why these were some of the earliest mammals to ever be domesticated. They look up to humans with this sort of dumb but all at once innocent and pure and trusting expression. They're happy to see you. They follow you around. They like to be rubbed under their chins. Maybe its just some latent Scottish highland shepherd DNA I still have in me but I look at my sheep charges and suddenly I see why the love of God for humanity is so often described as a shepherd and his sheep. I'd fight a wolf for these guys. I'd go way the Hell out of my way for them. I'd carry their young for miles on my own back.
#i dont sympathise with people who feel killing animals is good#yes it is human nature to eat other animals and so is braining our next door neigbours with rocks which we also still do#yes eating other animals is at the base of many different cuisines and important part of cultures#yes killing an animal to eat it does not invalidate the affection one holds for it or other members of its species#which is very curious as killing something that is alive is amongst the greatest evils that can be done to it by its perspective#which is what this post is about#yes humanity has developed as a species by subjugating and consuming other species of animal for a very long time and it makes life#more livable and all round possible in a LOT of landscapes - great element to the subsistence strategy#none of that either invalidates that youre doing one of the worst things a living being can experience to the living being#in fact - all of that be true at the same time#its such an incisive problem that individuals and whole cultures have come with countless stories and principles to solve it#my stuff#personal

Me whenever I get the chance to speak well about some professor whose course I thoroughly enjoyed because someone asked about it in the uni group chat: 👀💕
#I think I can reserve nice words for most professors we've had so far#except like. a few very specific ones of which I detested the course structure </3#(one of which I ended up taking abroad and had the absolute best time <3)#my post#also I generally get quite fond of professors who decide to give me some difficult question during oral exams so they can raise my mark teh#which usually end up being questions we never really studied/looked at but to which you can answer correctly by showing reasoning skills#I think I like it because it means that they see that I *can* do and tackle more of the topics#make me reason over things I love thinking I love solving problems and understanding the world through the knowledge I already possess#because it means I did not just learnt notions but the general principles and philosophy of the subject 💕

Principles and Laws of Magic for Fantasy Writers
Fundamental Laws
1. Law of Conservation of Magic- Magic cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.
3. Law of Equivalent Exchange- To gain something, an equal value must be given.
5. Law of Magical Exhaustion- Using magic drains the user’s energy or life force.
Interaction and Interference
4. Law of Magical Interference- Magic can interfere with other magical effects.
6. Law of Magical Contamination- Magic can have unintended side effects.
8. Law of Magical Inertia- Magical effects continue until stopped by an equal or greater force.
Resonance and Conditions
7. Law of Magical Resonance- Magic resonates with certain materials, places, or times.
9. Law of Magical Secrecy- Magic must be kept secret from the non-magical world.
11. Law of Magical Hierarchy- Different types of magic have different levels of power and difficulty.
Balance and Consequences
10. Law of Magical Balance- Every positive magical effect has a negative consequence.
12. Law of Magical Limitation- Magic has limits and cannot solve every problem.
14. Law of Magical Rebound- Misused magic can backfire on the user.
Special Conditions
13. Law of Magical Conduits- Certain objects or beings can channel magic more effectively.
15. Law of Magical Cycles- Magic may be stronger or weaker depending on cycles (e.g., lunar phases).
17. Law of Magical Awareness- Some beings are more attuned to magic and can sense its presence.
Ethical and Moral Laws
16. Law of Magical Ethics- Magic should be used responsibly and ethically.
18. Law of Magical Consent- Magic should not be used on others without their consent.
20. Law of Magical Oaths- Magical promises or oaths are binding and have severe consequences if broken.
Advanced and Rare Laws
19. Law of Magical Evolution- Magic can evolve and change over time.
20. Law of Magical Singularities- Unique, one-of-a-kind magical phenomena exist and are unpredictable.
Unique and Imaginative Magical Laws
- Law of Temporal Magic- Magic can manipulate time, but with severe consequences. Altering the past can create paradoxes, and using time magic ages the caster rapidly.
- Law of Emotional Resonance- Magic is amplified or diminished by the caster’s emotions. Strong emotions like love or anger can make spells more powerful but harder to control.
- Law of Elemental Harmony- Magic is tied to natural elements (fire, water, earth, air). Using one element excessively can disrupt the balance and cause natural disasters.
- Law of Dream Magic- Magic can be accessed through dreams. Dreamwalkers can enter others’ dreams, but they risk getting trapped in the dream world.
- Law of Ancestral Magic- Magic is inherited through bloodlines. The strength and type of magic depend on the caster’s ancestry, and ancient family feuds can influence magical abilities.
- Law of Symbiotic Magic- Magic requires a symbiotic relationship with magical creatures. The caster and creature share power, but harming one affects the other.
- Law of Forgotten Magic- Ancient spells and rituals are lost to time. Discovering and using forgotten magic can yield great power but also unknown dangers.
- Law of Magical Echoes- Spells leave behind echoes that can be sensed or traced. Powerful spells create stronger echoes that linger longer.
- Law of Arcane Geometry- Magic follows geometric patterns. Spells must be cast within specific shapes or alignments to work correctly.
- Law of Celestial Magic- Magic is influenced by celestial bodies. Spells are stronger during certain astronomical events like eclipses or planetary alignments.
- Law of Sentient Magic- Magic has a will of its own. It can choose to aid or hinder the caster based on its own mysterious motives.
- Law of Shadow Magic- Magic can manipulate shadows and darkness. Shadowcasters can travel through shadows but are vulnerable to light.
- Law of Sympathetic Magic- Magic works through connections. A spell cast on a representation of a person (like a doll or portrait) affects the actual person.
- Law of Magical Artifacts- Certain objects hold immense magical power. These artifacts can only be used by those deemed worthy or who possess specific traits.
- Law of Arcane Paradoxes- Some spells create paradoxes that defy logic. These paradoxes can have unpredictable and often dangerous outcomes.
- Law of Elemental Fusion- Combining different elemental magics creates new, hybrid spells with unique properties and effects.
- Law of Ethereal Magic- Magic can interact with the spirit world. Ethereal mages can communicate with spirits, but prolonged contact can blur the line between life and death.
- Law of Arcane Symbiosis- Magic can bond with technology, creating magical machines or enchanted devices with extraordinary capabilities.
- Law of Dimensional Magic- Magic can open portals to other dimensions. Dimensional travelers can explore alternate realities but risk getting lost or encountering hostile beings.
- Law of Arcane Sacrifice- Powerful spells require a sacrifice, such as a cherished memory, a personal item, or even a part of the caster’s soul.

A rare bonding experience
The ghost/paranormal sciences are slowly gaining traction as a legitimate scientific field of study, and so the government invites some of the leading independent ecto-scientists in the country to help create some standard guidelines for the safe handling of ectoplasmic materials.
This conference of barely a dozen people immediately takes a turn when billionaire Vlad Masters randomly shows up and passive aggressively sits directly across from infamous ghost hunting couple, Jack and Maddie Fenton. (The former is visibly excited to see him, the latter is visibly not.)
Everyone is (at first) blissfully unaware that Masters was the former lab partner of the husband-wife team, but rest assured: they're going to walk out of that room knowing FAR more about Mr and Mrs Fenton's lab safety practices (and personal lives) than they ever wanted to.
It is a very memorable, enlightening, and thoroughly unproductive conference.
#they disagree on how to be a ghost#they disagree on what family is#they disagree on how to solve problems and taking on personal responsibility#they disagree on ethics and the idea of consent#they disagree on how to talk out their problems#they disagree on what kind of people to hang out with#they disagree on football teams (Danny is for whoever is against the Packers when they are brought up on principle)#they disagree on coping mechanisms#what do they agree on?#Vlad made a mistake encouraging the GIW#the only thing worse than Jack’s aim (where he hits nothing) is his driving (where everything is hit)#OSHA would cry and erupt in rage at the Fenton Lab Safety Techniques (a misnomer because there isn’t any)
